Altburgermeister erhard celebrates 85. Birthday

Karl erhard from obervolkach celebrated his 85th birthday on 1 january. November his 85. Birthday. The old mayor of the municipality, who had held his office for 18 years, was able to receive numerous congratulations from his friends, club mates and companions on the occasion of his great birthday.

Wife berta, daughters roswitha, gabriele, barbara and christiane, and son frank with families, as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, extended their congratulations. Deputy district administrator paul streng, volkach’s city leader peter kornell and city councilor robert amling also joined the crowd of congratulators. The jubilarian was born on 1. November 1927 born in obervolkach as the son of the farmer and buttner franz erhard and his wife barbara. He was the nest child of the family and grew up with five brothers and sisters. After finishing school, he learned the trade of a merchant at the baywa in volkach. But already two years later, on 1. March 1944, he was drafted into the reich labor service and experienced the end of the war in 1945 in oberaudorf.

Even today, he reluctantly remembers the arduous trek from allgau back to franconia. After his brother went missing and his father became mayor of obervolkach in 1945, karl erhard broke off his apprenticeship and supported his parents in the business. In addition to agriculture and butchery, he also had to manage the obervolkacher raiffeisenkasse before he was elected to the board of directors on 19 january. On 1. May, karl erhard took over his father’s legacy and became mayor of his home municipality. He held this office until the incorporation into the city of volkach in 1978. Much was achieved under his leadership, including the land consolidation in 1961 and the sewerage system in 1966.

Since erhard was also a member of the parish council, later even as its chairman, he also took this opportunity to recall the renovation of the church, the cemetery chapel and the parish hall. For his tireless efforts, he was awarded the title of "altburgermeister" and the municipal medal of merit.

Karl erhard is a member of all the local associations anyway. He also served for ten years as chairman of the sports club (SVO) and was a co-founder of the carnival association (KVO). For eight years he has also been honorary senator there. He was chairman of the volunteer fire department for almost 25 years and is now serving as honorary chairman. Also among the co-founders of the first obervolkach wine festival is the jubilarian.

He was also an active singer for 47 years with the mannergesangverein "frohsinn". In the meantime, he has also acquired honorary membership there. Among his leisure activities is cooking. He also takes care of his sick wife around the clock.
