Bel canto at the church fair

Gestungshausen – the thuringian-french concert choir belcanto served up a musical treat on church anniversary sunday in the matthauskirche of the protestant church congregation of gestungshausen . Under the direction of helmut mitzenheim, the choir sang a 90-minute cross-section of its repertoire, ranging from folk songs to festive choral settings. _sebastian wolf accompanied the choir, where necessary, on the electric piano, and alfred hahn led through the program.
"We are a choir and come from thuringia and franconia": that’s how the singers introduced themselves in their first song. "Now start", "let’s be merry for an hour" and "landsknechtsstandchen followed. It became animalistic with the songs "a bird wanted to make a wedding" and "ants according to an arrangement by helmut mitzenheim, before a "needle to dance" went.
The few songs sung in english took the audience into the pop and gospel world with "I’ve got a feeling", "can you feel the love tonight", the title song from king of the lows, and the samba "sanbaya.
The section of love songs was filled with "the small town wants to go to sleep", "little love song " and" gabriella’s song". The folk songs "kein schoner land" followed, "you are in my heart", "heidenroslein", "when i was a voglein" and "farewell from the forest.
The women’s choir opened the festive chorus with "lift up your eyes". The whole choir was with "throw your concern on the lord" and "give us peace". Another high point of the concert followed with "richte mich gott" and by felix mendelsohn-bartholdy , the "panis angelicus, "ave verum" by wolfgang amadeus mozart, as well as the motet by anton bruckner "locus iste".
