Mountain rescue in flood operation

With four four-wheel drive vehicles, the rhon mountain rescue team from frammersbach, bischofsheim, oberbach and waldberg has been in action since tuesday in the flood area of deggendorf. This was reported by regional manager bruno buchs in a telephone conversation on tuesday afternoon. Twelve mountain rescue teams from rhon-grabfeld, main-spessart and bad kissingen are on board to help evacuate people in danger from floods.
Also alerted are rescue workers from the bavarian red cross (BRK) lower franconia, said BRK district general manager reinhold dietsch. Reason for the alert is the high water level in lower bavaria. Several villages in the region had to be evacuated due to the persistent water masses. These circumstances required an additional deployment of helpers from lower franconia.
The contingent sent to provide assistance consists mainly of units from the BRK district associations of kitzingen, miltenberg/ obernburg, schweinfurt and the malteser relief service.
A total of 62 helpers were sent, equipped with 16 emergency vehicles, three motorcycles, three field stoves and three support trailers.
In order to be able to care for 500 people for a longer period of time, the contingent has an additional 205 field beds and 250 blankets at its disposal. The primary task is to provide food and drink at all times of the day. "The BRK-kreisverband rhon-grabfeld provides a command vehicle with driver for the assistance", said heiko stablein, head of the rescue service in bad neustadt.
